How to do EFT tapping for pain relief

If you can’t make it in for a massage and yoga isn’t helping to reduce your pain, try EFT tapping to address and decrease your tension and physical discomfort.

First, identify the specific area that is in pain. For example, “the left side of my neck at the base of my skull is throbbing in pain.”

Next, rate the pain on a scale from 0 – 10. Zero is no pain, and 10 is an intense, and an overwhelming amount of pain.
Go with the number that first comes to mind.

Describe the pain in detail:
Is it a warm or cool sensation?
Is it sharp or dull?
Is there a color associated with the pain?
Can you use a metaphor or analogy to describe the feeling?

You can start tapping focusing on these physical characteristics of the pain. Remember to be as specific as possible when describing the area of the pain.

Oftentimes when tapping on pain, there is a strong emotion associated with the sensation.
When you think about the pain you’re feeling, what emotion comes to mind? Is it anger? Grief? Anxiety?

Here’s an example of how to use emotion in tapping on pain: “This sharp, stabbing pain on the left side of the base of my skull fills me with worry and anxiety.”

Try going through the ten tapping points at least twice or up to five cycles before pausing and checking in with yourself physically and emotionally. Remember to keep your tapping phrases simple by repeating two or three phrases while tapping.

When tapping, start at the karate chop point (side of the hand underneath the pinky) by stating your challenge and affirming your love and acceptance for yourself.

Here’s an example: “Even though I have this sharp, stabbing feeling on the left side of my neck at the base of my skull, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself.”

Here are two tapping phrases examples for neck pain:
“I feel anxious thinking about the sharp pain on the left side of my neck.”
“This sharp, stiffening pain on the left side of my neck feels like rough pebbles grinding together.”
